Social Media Examiner recently released its annual Social Media Marketing Report. The study reflects that 80 percent of marketers aren’t planning to use daily deal sites in their future campaigns. In this study 3,025 marketers were surveyed. The most significant points determined by this report will be highlighted in this article.
There’s been a decrease in the use of social bookmarking sites from 26 percent in 2011 to only 10 percent in 2013. Marketers no longer want to use De.licio.us, DIGG, Freindfeed, etc. The most popular bookmarking sites are currently Twitter, Pinterest, Reddit, and StumbleUpon, according to ebizMBA.
Marketers have also decreased their usage of forums from 24 percent in 2011 to 16 percent this year. Usage of Geo-location services such as Foursquare has also decreased from 17 percent in 2011 to 11 percent.
Ninety two percent of marketers that have five years’ experience (or more) are more likely to use LinkedIn than the 70 percent who have less than five years’ experience.
Marketers who spend more than 40 hours a week on social media focus their campaigns heavily on Pinterest, Google Plus, Instagram, and YouTube than those who spend six hours a week or less.
Business-to-consumer marketers prefer Facebook more than business-to-business marketers. Sixty seven percent of B2C marketers use Facebook while 29 percent of B2B marketers use Facebook and LinkedIn.
Sixty seven percent of these marketers plan to increase their Twitter campaigns. Although this is a high percentage of marketers, this is a slight increase from 69 percent over last year, and even more of a decrease from the 73 percent in 2011. Younger marketers are much more likely to launch campaigns on photo sharing sites such as Instagram than older marketers.
The biggest change in social marketing trends is that 80 percent of marketers will not be using daily deal sites such as a Groupon or Living Social in their future campaigns.
According to another Forbes contributor, David K Williams, the most popular forums and bookmarking sites are heavily geared towards entertainment and funny pictures, based on current research. Reddit is one of the top social bookmarking sites for marketing and managing traffic in masse.
