Pinterest has made a number of changes and upgrades over the last few months. If you use Pinterest daily, a couple of these will make a significant change in your usage. We’ve also put together a few marketing tips for this platform.
Sending pins to your friends
If you come across something on Pinterest that you know a friend or colleague might like, you now have a send option to share it with Pinterest users, Facebook friends, or your email contacts.
Duplicate pin notification
If you’re managing multiple boards, accounts and brands, this notification will make sure that you don’t duplicate a photo. Previously you had to open another tab and search through your pins to make sure you weren’t duplicating the post. Now, the platform will let you know if you’ve already pinned a picture.
Analytics
The analytics are basic, but still offer a lot more than this platform previously did. You can now track the number of pinners and pins along with repinners and repins. You will also be able to see the total number of impressions, reach, and referral traffic. While this information can be helpful to webmasters, you will still need third-party analytic platforms so you can identify influential painters, popular boards and highly-engaged pens.
Mobile notifications, friend mentions and suggested search terms
The platform upgraded its mobile features and now includes push notifications to can track repins or comments. This is helpful to anyone managing pages in real time. And, the suggested search term feature as well as the mentioning friends feature are now available for mobile users.
Chrome extension
Users with a Chrome browser will now have chrome specific buttons so you can free up space on your bookmark bar.
Marketing Tips
Pin selectively – select the best products to pin.
Add “Pin It” buttons – be sure to add these buttons so it’s easy for other people to pin your images. Also, add a follow button to your Pinterest profile.
Use lots of images – by using a lot of images you will have more for people to pin.
Pin often and pin variety – by pinning often, people have more opportunities to see something they might like which will increase repins, likes, follows, or comments. Make sure that you repin, like, follow, and comment on other pins/pinters that are relevant to your industry.
Pin interests – Pinterest users don’t want to see marketing. They look for things that they’re interested in and they want to see people. Make boards on topics of interest and pin and interact on those boards as well.
Pin vertically – use taller, thinner images to get more views with the Pinterest layout.
Feature customers – make your customers feel special through recognition. You can also hold contests that require repining to be entered.
Secret boards – secret boards can be used in a variety of ways. You could create a membership type board for your VIP customers. You could use it as a collaboration area for employees. You could also use it for private ideas specific to your customers.
