Social Media marketing strategy is crucial to a company’s brand recognition. Businesses need to understand social media marketing and which social media platforms to utilize. Based on recent studies, a business’ brand needs social media marketing.
The study conducted in 2012 by Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), Ipsos ASI, and Bloomberg determined there is a skills gap in business use of social media. Only 6 percent of companies using social media say their skills and competencies are excellent while 50 percent feel they are not equipped to handle social media marketing. 95 percent of Americans expect a company to have a social media presence. 89 percent expect the company to engage with them on social media. However, the number of companies responding or engaging is minimal.
As shown on the updated Social Media Revolution video, social media has become “part of the fabric of our lives.”
- The number one activity online is social media;
- There are over a billion active monthly users on Facebook;
- Two new members join LinkedIn every two seconds;

According to Forbes, a key factor in the success of companies that outperform their peers is strong social media marketing. A successful business today includes social media marketing as an essential part of its plan. However, the majority of companies feel that they are not using social media effectively.
Implementing an effective social media program requires that the executives of an organization be part of it as well. According to the latest, Socializing Your CEO report from Weber Shandwick, 18% of CEO’s for the world’s largest companies have their own social media network pages. A company that does not have CEO’s participating in social media marketing will have a difficult time training employees to be effective in social media.
Companies should focus on training executives and employees to use social media marketing correctly. Creating content that engages your audience and making sure the content is appropriate for the social media platform are pivotal elements of the marketing strategy. Strong social media marketing includes branding your business and marketing the brand.
