Social media is visible in all advertising. Company websites are including links to social media platforms while TV commercials are including the symbols to social media platforms and hash tags for Twitter. For example, Mercedes uses the hash tag, #youdrive, in their TV commercials.
In addition, Twitter conducted a study in the UK that determined that Twitter is the “second screen” to TV. This study revealed that in the UK during peak TV viewing time, 40% of all Twitter traffic was about TV. Since TV commercials all include Twitter hash tags and “tweets” seem to be more about TV and entertainment, it’s logical to conclude that social media is here to stay.
Furthermore, businesses can benefit from more than social media marketing. Mobile applications for businesses are a smart way to use social media and improve brand recognition. There are four types of mobile application for businesses:
- Marketing apps;
- Service or product supplement apps;
- Internal company use apps;
- Money making apps.
Marketing apps
Businesses can distribute a free app that does something useful. The free downloads will link directly to the company website and allow the promotion of products and/or services. This is a great marketing tool as regular advertising won’t allow direct links to a website. A company’s brand awareness will still increase, even if users don’t download the app (as the app will still be viewable in the app store).
Service or product supplement apps
Providing apps that allow customers to improve their user experience is a great supplement to services and/or products. A great example of this is the Facebook app. By downloading the app, Facebook users have a better user experience on mobile devices. Creating an app that makes the customer’s user experiences easier will lead to more satisfied customers.
Internal company use apps
Creating apps for internal company use (so staff can perform their job and track or backup information on their mobile device) is a way to increase productivity. This is especially helpful for employees who travel and are on the road a lot. Having the ability to work while on-the-go allows employees to stay caught up instead of catching up with work.
Money making apps
Apps can now be part of a company’s business plan. Creating an app that fits with a company’s mission statement can be a great source of additional income.
Technology and social media work together to increase marketability and advertising for businesses today. Create a business plan that allocates the expense of creating apps into the marketing budget. This will help businesses increase brand recognition and social media presence.
